Event Preview: Awale Jant Band @ Woolwich Works (London; Saturday 7th May 2022)

Awale Woolwich Works

Nights don’t come more soulful than this!

On Saturday, 7th May, head for Woolwich Works and take a dive into Awale’s funky sound, shaped on afrobeat, highlife, sabar rhythms, Afro-soul, jazz and even Latin influences.

The London-based 9-piece band, captained by Senegalese (of Wolof origins) singer/songwriter Biram Seck and French multi-instrumentalist Thibaut Remy, will pay a visit to the recently inaugurated South-East London venue carrying along their excellent musicianship and eclectic Pan-African repertoire.

What’s more, YEWOULEN (Wake Up), Awale’s latest album, was released on the eve of the first Covid lockdown back in late March 2020. Which means that their gig on the 7th of May will be one of the first opportunities to enjoy the live rendition of the band’s new tunes, whose styles range from the Senegalese tradition to ethio-jazz, and from Nigerian and Ghanaian Afro-funk to salsa and rumba.

So, as the meaning of Awale Jant Band’s name suggests you do, ‘let the sun pass through’ and refresh your best moves to dance to their uplifting Afro-soul!
