There are not many artists able to personify the new wave of Cuban salseros like Maykel Blanco.
Born and raised in Havana, the percussionist, pianist, producer and band leader of Salsa Mayor has spread his catchy and dance-inducing percussion-driven salsa all over the world, from Canada to China and Japan to Argentina, building a strong following in Southern European countries too.
His seventeen-year career, started when he was just 15 by founding his very first ensemble and adorned with critic’s and markets’ recognition, has solid foundations. He’s indeed one of the most respected musicians in his own country as well, which is no piece of cake if you were born in Cuba.
So, no wonder that his upcoming London show organised by ¡Como No! at Electric Brixton on Saturday is a not-to-be-missed opportunity to enjoy some of the freshest salsa and timba you can dance to today.
The 14-member strong Salsa Mayor, supported by 100% Cuban DJs Javier La Rosa and Dr Jim and dancers Osbanis and Anneta will lead you into Carnival mood in no time, throughout six hours of sparkling and impassioned salsa rhythms.
