Preview: BCUC w/ Samedia Shebeen @ Rich Mix (London; Tuesday 10th April 2018)

Here is a South African band that is taking the music world by storm. Far from being freshers on the African music scene, BCUC (or Bantu Continua Uhuru Consciousness) have only recently started to enjoy the well-deserved hype around their name and magnetizing sound.

On April 10, they will take London by storm once again. Just a few months after their latest exciting performances in the British capital (at Total Refreshment Centre and Koko for Gilles Peterson’s Awards), BCUC will be back to present their brand new EP Emakhosini at Rich Mix, supported by Scottish world beats DJs Samedia Shebeen.

Trust us, you will have hardly listened to any band like them and you will not have experienced a gig like theirs before. BCUC is a one-of-a-kind project. Organically embodying Soweto and its soundscape, the sextet draws plenty from the Johannesburg township’s full-bodied cultural and social environment, to which they add their own distinctive elements like psychedelia, funky vibes and tireless performances. As much as their songs, BCUC’s live shows are enthralling and built on crescendos which grow for minutes and minutes and end up possessing your body, as well as your ears and mind.

You’ll simply need to walk through Rich Mix’s doors and let BCUC and their uncompromising, heartfelt and spirited sound take care of the rest, displaying what genuine music is about.
