Preview: Global Beats @ Pizza Express Live Holborn (London; Wednesday 24th to Saturday 27th October 2018)

For four nights, the Pizza Express Live programme will put aside its usual jazzy and bluesy aplomb to wear funky and upbeat music clothes.

Between the 24th and 27th October, the Holborn venue will go wild hosting Global Beats, a music series organised in association with Shades of Soul and presenting four adrenalizing bands that will heat up the Central London hazy autumn with a full house of West African rhythms, afrobeat, highlife, deep funk, reggae and dub.

We are pretty sure that you have already danced or skanked to one of the masters of Ghanaian percussion, from Afla Sackey and its thundering Afrik Bawantu (on Tuesday 24th October); Yaaba Funk (on the 25th), who are arguably the funkiest African band in the UK; the inflammatory afro-fusion of KOG & the Zongo Brigade (Thursday 26th); to Brighton classy up-tempo purveyors Resonators (who will close the series on the 27th).

But joining them at Pizza Express will give their music a completely different perspective, gaining in urban accents and better defining the luscious details of their sound.
