Preview: Hafla! @ The Post Bar (London; Friday 12th November 2021)

There’s a new music series in town! Aptly named Hafla, the new University of Tropical Sounds‘ residency at The Post Bar in Tottenham will thoroughly embody its meaning (get-together in Arabic) welcoming musicians, DJs, jammers and gig-goers at large for a night inspired by sounds from the Mediterranean shores wherever they might be, from the Middle East to Southern Europe and Northern Africa to the Balkans …

The series will debut this Friday with a 7-hour event featuring live and DJ-sets and a jam session involving local and international artists.

Starting with the guest of honour, French-based Kabilyan DJ, producer and music explorer KasbaH and his North African-scented music selection wandering from dub to trance. He will be followed by the wildest Balkan fusion-trio you can meet, listen and party to in London, Balkan Hot Club. With members coming from Greece, Bulgaria and Turkey and also part of The Turbans, Gypsidelica and Balothizer, Balkan Hot Club turns balkanbeats up to 11.

Next up, it will be time for the host to jump behind the decks… Carthnage will indeed set free his bassy instinct and shape a Pan-Arabic set for your pleasure and dancy impulses.

While Catalan multi-instrumentalist, composer and band leader of Periscopi Invertit, Mireia Carbonell will have the sweet-sounding task of bringing everyone together on stage, joining creative forces and giving life to a “world infused jam”.

Only a few days to go, then Hafla will flood Tottenham with Arabic, Mediterranean and Balkan vibes. Dive into them, wearing your dancing shoes!
