Preview: Jazz Cafe and Tomorrow’s Warriors present I Am Warrior @ Jazz Cafe (London; Saturday 12th January 2019)

TomorrowWarriors

No one can deny that the Tomorrow’s Warriors education charity has been integral to the rise of London’s current nu-jazz scene. Their yearbook is a who’s who of London’s most popular jazzers. Led by husband and wife tag team Gary Crosby and Janine Irons, this bricks and mortar charity has strived to improve diversity and equality in the genre.  As the alumni lead the way, now the younger students are building form.

Jazz Cafe and Tomorrow’s Warriors are uniting on 12th January to fundraise for the Warriors with an inter-generational show. Ex-students performing include East London’s ‘girl next door’ singer Zara McFarlane, MOBO winner, who is best known for her humble performances and her compositional mix of Jamaican beats and soulful voice. Also taking to the stage will be Shirley Tetteh, a beautifully understated guitarist who mixes electro-pop with jazz, perfecting the representation of the fluid boundaries of the British sound.

Other well-known alumni taking to the stage include saxophonists Soweto Kinch, Cassie Kinoshi and Binker Golding, trumpet player Mark Crown and pianist Peter Edwards.

This will be one of the hot tickets for January and will undoubtedly sell out. So, grab a spot quickly and support the newest kids on the block refining their skills for the years ahead!
