It’s always an exciting time for music when a legend pays a visit to British shores, and Kanda Bongo Man is no exception.

The legend of soukous headlines London’s Rich Mix on Friday 1st April.

Known as the father of ‘kwassa kwassa’, a dance craze in which hands follow swinging hips along to fast paced Congolese rumba, Kanda built up his reputation in the 80’s within the soukous scene through connections with the scenes figureheads such as Tabu Ley, Diblo Dibala and Orchestre Bella Mambo, before embarking on a solo path in ’78, delivering a unique take on traditional soukous rhythms.

Having impressed European music fans at 1983’s WOMAD festival, hence birthing his overseas popularity, Kanda has since been entertaining fans throughout Europe, the States and beyond for the past decade, delivering high energy, rambunctious sold out performances for all generations.

Support on the night organized by Focus Organization and Yaram Arts, comes courtesy of Tropical sound system Palm City Social and afrobeat performer Chipper Inter, promising to be a feel good party  to remember.
