La Papessa, her second release (dated 2016), has recently been awarded the Polaris Music Prize for the best Canadian Album of the Year, but if we love Lido Pimienta’s music, it’s for tons of reasons more.

As much as her songs, Lido is blunt, engaged, socially aware and an eclectic artist of irrepressible creativity. That’s arguably inevitable for a musician of Colombian Wayuu and Afro-Colombian origins, currently based in Canada and who has artistically grown up collaborating with other meaningful and conscious acts such as Chancha Via Circuito, A Tribe Called Red, Diana Pereira, and El Remolon.

Since she’s more used to performing in London Ontario than in London UK, her upcoming intimate show at Sebright Arms on Wednesday the 1^st of November is a not-to-be-missed opportunity. Head for East London and get enriched by the music and stage presence of an artist who doesn’t, in her own words, “have to be white, skinny, blonde, sing in English or French to stand by what she wants to do and what she wants to say”.
