If there’s a musician with the essence of soukous, that’s Kanda Bongo Man. Since the early ‘70s, the Congolese artist has helped to revolutionise the Central African style, bringing its popularity out of the African continent and letting people dance to it all over the world.
So, it’s always exciting when he honours his London fans with a show, and even more exciting if that performance is part of a good and proper soukous celebration, like the one happening at Rich Mix on Saturday 17th August.
For 2019’s edition of the LondonSoukous Music Festival, Kanda Bongo will be supported by local and international Congolese rumba bands, and there’s no doubt that he will end up getting the audience dancing the night away as much as he has done in the last 50 years.
