Preview: Atomic Bomb! The Music of William Onyeabor @ Meltdown – Southbank Centre (London, 20/08/2015)


There are few but well preserved mysteries in the musical world.

One of them will be unfolded at Southbank Centre during 2015’s edition of Meltdown Festival curated by David Byrne.

Next to a stimulating show, “Atomic Bomb! The Music of William Onyeabor” is also an attempt to explain who William Onyeabor is and how much influential music he left behind.

The enigmatic artist, who has retired to private life in his homeland since the late 1980’s, has always wrapped his career in a veil of secrecy, but this hasn’t prevented him becoming one of the most significant Nigerian musicians of the ‘70s and affect the development of funk and electronic music through the last thirty years.

On the Royal Festival Hall stage, David Byrne, accompanied by Sinkane, Money Mark (Beastie Boys), Mahotella Queens and many other gifted interpreters, will revive and make known the exceptional creativity of one of the most the eccentric figures ever appeared on the music scene.
