Preview: Orchestra Baobab @ Roundhouse (London, 31st January 2017)

In the Round Music Series is back at the Roundhouse with the usual line up, brimming with quality acts representing traditions which are worlds apart.

On the 31st of January, the Camden venue will host one of the highlights of the festival, welcoming emblematic Senegalese ensemble Orchestra Baobab. The orchestra from Dakar has indeed influenced West African music since the early 1970s, displaying an original and enthusiastic blend between African, Caribbean, South American and European sounds.

Specialist In All Styles is not just the title of one of their most recent productions, but their way of life too. In fact, the sextet from Dakar is inspired by Afro-Cuban rhythms, Senegalese tradition, Congolese rumba, Portuguese Creole melodies, Nigerian afrobeat, Ghanaian highlife and much more.

After 40 years, Orchestra Baobab still plays at full throttle and is ready to publish a new album for World Circuit this spring. So don’t miss the opportunity to experience a night of Pan-Atlantic vibes and exquisite tunes and hints to one of the most anticipated release of 2017.
