shabaka-and-the-ancestors-islington-assembly-hall-november-2017

Afro-futurism exploration from tenor saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings. His latest tour showcases the album Wisdom of Elders wherein he re-imagines the voices of ancient elders through a free-jazz expression of South African music. Alongside his virtuoso African band (the Ancestors) he will introduce you to his influences of Ugandan Amadinda, calypso and Xhosa styles.

Hutchings has a Caribbean upbringing and found recognition playing with Sun Ra Arkestra. He is an artist in demand, most recently playing with popular jazz bands Comet Is Coming and Sons of Kemet for which he won a MOBO.

Islington Assembly Hall will be the perfect companion for this intimate yet upbeat gig.
