A very special evening will be hosted at the Barbican Centre. And it is worth a documented reading before attending…

Announced as the BFI Archive Gala and part of the launch of the UK-India Year of Culture, this event connects the 61st edition of the BFI London Film Festival with the cultural celebrations of the iconic relationship between UK and India.

The autumnal evening will premiere the screening of the BFI restoration of Shiraz, the Indian/British/German silent movie (1928) about the love story between the Taj Mahal designer Shiraz, and the Empress Mumtaz Mahal.

The night will also see the unique presence of Indian composer and sitar player Anoushka Shankar performing her world premiere accompaniment score, echoing the Indian love story intertwined with the symbolic spirituality of Taj Mahal.

The doors are open for an exceptional opportunity to witness Ravi Shankar’s daughter expanding her virtuosity and the Indian heritage beyond music and cinema.
