Imagine an afternoon in an exquisite South-East London park spent listening, dancing and jamming to heartening Afro-Brazilian Carnival music.
Dream no further, because on the 31st of July you are all invited to a free-entry two-hour event where you will be blown away by the exhilarating vibes and beats lavished on you by Let Drum Beat and Pumpkin Jigsaw.
The two ensembles are arguably the best embodiments of Afro-Brazilian percussion music the UK can offer. They both present original ways to reinterpret quintessentially Brazilian rhythms and styles like batucada, candomblé and samba, jazzing them up with global influences and London character…
Let Drum Beat is an all-female quartet making the most of the Atlantic music connection. Moving from Brazil to West Africa and back, they offer a “true voyage of rhythms and original songs”, which you can enjoy listening to Lua Cheia, their debut album released last year.
Pumpkin Jigsaw, playing their part, present a true rhythmic experience. Through the beats of samba, and batucada they create “inclusive and immersive environments” in which you can smoothly lose yourself.
Carnival might still be a few months away, but its drums will start pulsating at the bandstand in Greenwich Park on the 31st of July!
