Explosive and experimental improvisations in a venue known for its booming sound system and immersive shows.
New Hymn to Freedom was one of the most under-the-radar albums of 2018; it got a glowing critical reception and includes six transient and explosive unedited improvisations that each allow the different parts of Szun Waves to showcase their musical ability.
Szun Waves playing at Five Miles is an exciting prospect. Not often, but much more regularly, live music is becoming part of Five Miles’ programme, allowing for an intimate venue, and a sound system designed to light up the dance floor with dance music from cross genres to be used for jazz electronica. This will be really tested in an AV show from support soundscape designer and composer, Kayla Painter.
Electronic musician and composer Luke Abbot leads Szun Waves, supported by Portico Quartet’s Jack Wyllie, and Laurence Pike from Triosk and PVT. The group create melodic, ambient jazz, which fuses the many genres that bring the musicians together. Expected to be hot, sweaty and loud, this will be an immersive.
