Preview: The Best from Africa ft. Kasai Masai & Alim Kamara @ Rich Mix (London, 27th February 2016)

The Best from Africa series at Rich Mix resumes for 2016 this week with a double bill sure to dispel any lingering January blues. With Sierra Leone hip hop storytelling accompanying the soukous of Congo, Kasai Masai joins Alim Kamara this Saturday in a night demonstrating the musical prowess emanating from both nations.

Described as Congolese ‘Urban Equatorial Funk’, Kasai Masai kick off the night with their style of soukous music. Based in London, and led by Voodoo King, Nickens Nkoso, Kasai Masai mix the traditional sound of the equatorial African village with a distinctive urban edge. The band’s fast-paced style of soukous and African rumba is impossible to stay still to.

Alim Kamara will then take over, combining his hip hop talent with his flair for storytelling. With his open and honest rhyming captivating audiences and having told inspirational stories to the Office of Deputy Prime Minister and the NHS, you can’t help but be pumped for this performance. Sharing personal stories and simple techniques accessible to all, it is no wonder he keeps getting requested, and no wonder Rich Mix have him alongside Kasai Masai in 2016’s first Best from Africa showcase.
