Preview: Tropicalia Fest @ Queen Mary Park (Long Beach – California, 11th November 2017)
On Saturday November 11, Long Beach California’s Queen Mary Park will play host to a very well-curated music and taco festival, Tropicalia Fest.Los Tigres del Norte is the headlining act, a gig the Tigers deserve given how accomplished the group is. Os Mutanteswill also be present and sure to rock the crowd with some original Tropicalia, being that it was one of the great bands of its first incarnation as theatrical Brazilian rock that stood and danced in opposition to conservative Brazilian culture guided by the church, patriarchy, and state. Jorja Smith is another notable name, in the long list of notable bands playing at Tropicalia Fest. Las Cafeteras (whom we recently interviewed) will be representing Los Angeles.
Chances are that Tropicalia Fest‘s ultra-impressive line-up will be worth your while, but if that isn’t enough, the festival will also be offering free tacos until 4PM, of every sort. Meld the line-up and the tacos together with the fact that you’re in Southern California and voila, ladies and gents, a festivity for the ages, one sure to leave no attendee disappointed.
November 11 is a great day for such an affair: the dead have been celebrated, leaves have begun to fall, and the sun doesn’t quite sting like it used to a few weeks before. Hats and jackets will surely populate the affair and its “perfect playlist” ambience.

Tropicália Fest began at an impromptu bus stop for yours truly, as it did for most other attendees. I parked and then boarded a free shuttle bus to one’s desire. The shuttle bus was a classic yellow school bus in my case. Sitting behind a starry-eyed couple, with whom I…
There is a time proven bond between music and reincarnation, of birth and rebirth, and of historical ancestry (Aztec soldiers, for example; who died in battle, were thought to be reincarnated into hummingbirds.) With jarana, requinto jarocho, zapateado, tarima, quijada, and several other instruments, Las Cafeteras, a band of six,…
