'Alvorada are the UK’s leading performers of Choro, a rich and uplifting style of instrumental music from Brazil. After sell-out shows in Paris and Pizza Express Holborn celebrating the launch of their debut album 'First Light' (5 stars Songlines), Alvorada will be returning to the Harrison to pull some exciting new tunes out of the hat!
Choro emerged in the late 19th century as a mixture of European harmony with African rhythm, and can be considered the jazz of Brazil. Alvorada explore influences from all over Brazil, playing choros with the irresistible swing of samba from the South and baião from the Northeast. As well as playing classics from the Choro genre, Alvorada play original works, revisiting the genre with influences from the UK.'

“Alvorada is one of the best Choro ensembles I know. The group manages to revitalize the soul of choro, with technicality and emotion. The ensemble is a proof that there are no boundaries or exclusivities in music, playing a genuinely rooted Choro with joviality and originality. Alvorada is on my top list of Brazilian music ensembles.” Dr Vinicius de Carvalho, Kings College London
“Having lived in Rio de Janeiro for many years and being really into live music I’ve heard a lot of choro music in my time and I can honestly say Alvorada comes out there right on top. It doesn’t seem to matter that some of the band are not Brazilian; they all play with supreme talent and an infectious, authentic Brazilian style which just makes you want to get up and dance!” Alison McGowan, Florence Latin Jazz
