COSMIC ANALOG ENSEMBLE & ERNESTO CHAHOUD
A unique night celebrating Lebanon’s two groove giants with the best of underground, analog and vinyl.
Cosmic Analog Ensemble
Spearheading an unparalleled discography of 80 albums over the span of 10 years, Cosmic Analog Ensemble is the project of the mastermind Lebanese producer and multi-instrumentalist Charif Megarbane. As part of Shubbak festival, he will be making his anticipated European full-band debut.
Combining symphonic soul, grainy North African funk, free jazz, Saharan blues and krautrock, Cosmic Analog’s music is a hypnotising and powerful force to be reckoned with - a Quentin Tarantino soundtrack for the 21st century. Played live. Releasing the critically acclaimed “Les Sourdes Oreilles” in 2017, it was described by Bandcamp as "a crate-digger’s dream, a magnum force of infectious grooves and sample-ready melodies”. Boilerroom, Medium and Pitchfork have all been equally impressed.
Megarbane also runs the one-man operation Hisstology Records, a label of mostly instrumental music informed by everything from classic soul and scintillating afrobeat, to beat-tape boom-bap and vintage Italian movie scores.
The show will be opened by non-other than Beirut DJ Ernesto Chahoud; co-founder and manager of Beirut Groove Collective. Ernesto was labelled “Lebanon’s guerrilla vinyl guru” by the Middle East Eye and his collection of vinyls is one of the largest in the Middle East. He has his own monthly show on NTS radio called “Beirut Daze” and has appeared on the Boiler Room and Discogs set series “From the Counter”.
