About Mais Um Discos:
Mais Um Discos promotes the most exciting new music from Brazilian artists who fuse styles, disregard genres and irritate purists.
Their debut release was the critically acclaimed compilation 'Oi! A Nova musica Brasileira,' a 40 track sonic-snapshot of the most exciting artists producing new music in Brazil now, compiled by label boss Mais Um Gringo that featured Lucas Santtana. Mais Um Discos are now proud to release Lucas Santtana's album,'Sem Nostalgia,' which has just entered the World Music Charts Europe at number 1! On 1st November, Lucas will be playing tracks from his widely acclaimed new album.
About Lucas Santtana:
Equal parts Thom Yorke and Tom Ze, Lucas Santtana is one of Brazil's most interesting, dynamic and experimental singer-songwriter-producers from the new generation of Brazilian musicians.
On 'Sem Nostalgia' Lucas used only voices, acoustic guitars, ambient sound and samplers to create a textured, haunting, disorientating and forward thinking soundscape.
Lucas will recreate the album live with the Sem Nostalgia duo of Bruno Buarque (percussion, samplers) and Regis Damasceno (bass, guitar).
Drawing influences from dub, bossa nova and folktronica, expect to hear the band move from haunting reverb-soaked ballads to glitchy percussive workouts that showcase Lucas's potent songwriting and the musicians' unique re-imagination of space, texture and rhythm.
What interests and inspires Santtana “are musicians that do not think of harmony, melody or rhythm but of layers of sound. I am not interested in the specific guitar chord, but in it's texture – and overdubbing these layers, these musical textures, is what inspires me." Santtana adds "Our music has international influences as much as Brazilian: it does not fit into any pre-disposed clichés of tropical, colourful music."
What the press have to say about Lucas Santtana:
“Sonic provocateur Santtana subjects (bossa nova) to an adventurous, discordant deconstruction, employing every acoustic and electronic means at his disposal…”
The Telegraph, August 2011
“Sambas laced with samples, a reggae-tinged instrumental, droll songs in English, dub-trickery… Santtana’s innovative approach makes for a refreshing excursion”
The Observer, August 2011
