Intricate melodies, rhythmic patterns and rich percussive textures: immerse yourself in the sounds of Balinese gamelan at LSO St Luke’s this March.

An ancient and constantly evolving art form, the captivating soundscapes of the gamelan are created by an orchestra of tuned bronze gongs and metallophones. In this cross-arts showcase, they accompany the vibrant energy of traditional Indonesian dance.

Lila Cita, the UK’s premier Balinese Gamelan group, demonstrate the signature sound they’ve developed since their founding in 1992, while the LSO Community Gamelan Group share the pieces they have worked on from their home at LSO St Luke’s. Lila Bhawa, the country’s leading Indonesian dance group, perform breathtaking Balinese dance in traditional dress.
