The London debut of Gaye Su Akyol, the exciting young Turkish singer-songwriter, following her stunning performance at WOMAD Festival in 2018.
Political and traditional influences of her home country’s musical and societal history permeate her work including that of the eternally relevant Selda Bağcan.
She fuses this with nods to Nirvana and Nick Cave, backed by an impressive band, to create a distinctive folk-rock style in which sturdy bass riffs and percussion underpin distinctively Turkish melodies. To this is added a dash of electronica, and local stringed instruments including the oud, bağlama and cümbüş to get a sound that is deeply original and at once recognisable as that of a rising international star.
Nominated for Best Artist Category in the 2019 the Songlines World Music awards.
