Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Awards 2018

This January, Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Awards will return to KOKO for another triumphant musical celebration. The annual meeting place for music nerds and underground obsessives, it’s an evening dedicated to championing the best in forward-thinking music. This will be an evening jam-packed live performances and DJ sets running through to the early hours.

A look back over the biggest moments from past year, it’s also a dedication to the greats who have made waves over the years. As an event, there’s nothing else like it: with Gilles as host and MC, it’s an eight-hour musical marathon which stretches from innovative jazz creations to jacked-up club bangers. Stay tuned for line-up announcements over the coming months.

LINE-UP

Khruangbin...the globe-trotting Texan trio will be bringing their vibe synchronous psychedelic soul-funk to the stage at KOKO ahead of their new album “Con Todo El Mundo” releasing later in January 2018.

BCUC will come correct with their energetic, unique and magic formula; the voices of their ancestors, mixed with funk, punk-rock vibrations, hip-hop, Fela-inflections and much more in between.

One of the UK’s most exciting new talents Yazmin Lacey will join the live side of the bill - delivering a taste of her beautifully direct, honest soul-jazz songwriting.

After a DJ hiatus of close to 7 years, the British techno sorcerer James Holden will be jumping back on the decks to with some intelligent electronic selections to get the dance moving.

Iamddb.….fresh off the release of her Hoodrich Vol.3 EP, one of the UK’s most exciting young prospects; Manchester’s IAMDDB delivers the perfect balance of turn-up anthems and soul food.

London-based saxophonist and composer, Nubya Garcia is one of the leading forces behind the resurgence of jazz-influenced sounds in the UK and she brings the sounds of her beautiful, thoughtful, “Nubya’s 5ive” EP to the stage at KOKO.

Finally, the BBC 1Xtra DJ who appeals to the heads and the feet all at the same time... Jamz Supernova . With her selections, she’ll guarantee that from trap, bass and future R’n’B, all the bases are well and truly covered - forward thinking music from around the world.
