On Sunday June 16th we shall be holding a joyous celebration to mark the release of the debut album from Ghanaian xylophonist Isaac Birituro and Leeds based producer and singer/songwriter, The Rail Abandon. The album, entitled "Kalba" is a warm homage to the town in Northern Ghana where it was recorded, and has received similarly glowing responses from music lovers and taste makers back here in the UK.
"Dancing melodies cross the xylophone and shake the palm wine for this highlife soul collaboration" Pete On The Corner
"It's like a whole story in three minutes and a half" Cerys Matthews (BBC 6Music) on the single, "Für Svenja"
The album will be re-created live in the gorgeous, audiophile's dream that is East London's Giant Steps, featuring a stellar line up of musicians hailing from as far afield as Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea, France, and of course the UK, playing extended interpretations, and welcoming some surprise guests.
On DJ duties will be your Wah Wah 45s hosts, Dom Servini and Scrimshire, joined by those young upstarts from red hot tropical collective Village Cuts and very special guest Mr Tom Ravenscroft. The BBC 6Music stalwart will be digging deep into his extensive collection and playing us some of his most beloved gems from the African continent and beyond.
Festivities start at 3pm with live music kicking off around 7, so join us for an afternoon of musical delights in one of London's most unique venues.
