AFRICA NOW Tony Allen + Jeff Mills | 22.09.2018         Amadou & Mariam | 06.10.2018Bombino | 18.10.2018 Sala Fucine OGR - Officine Grandi Riparazioni Tony Allen, master of afro-beat rhythms, known as one of the most influential figures in the contemporary music scene, inspires the work of generations of producers, composers and djs with his music developed from different influences gathered during his full journey around the globe. His encounter with Jeff Mills, superstar of electronic music and Detroit techno and now maître à penser of the developmente of a sound without borders, has proved fatal. Tony Allen is one of the best musicians in a scene that cannot be easily defined as jazz, given its experimental and mutable nature. Jeff Mills, dj, artist and producer, is profoundly fascinated by sci-fi and applies the genre to his ouvre, using it as the fundamental feature of his aesthetic. The concept of jam, taken from jazz, is the link between the drums of the master of Lagos and the machines of the American music scientist in a show that has the world moving and is becoming an album by Blue Note, presented for the first time at OGR.

Event Review: Terraforma Festival @ Villa Arconati (Milan, Italy; Friday 29th June to Sunday 1st July 2018)

Going to a music festival is, in a way, a sort of pilgrimage. It is, for many, an act of love towards music and the cathartic energy of being together and sharing a place, a space, an experience. Just like a real pilgrimage, it requires a decent amount of effort…

Set in the heart of the Sussex Downs, Love Supreme Festival returned for its 6th year of spreading the gospel of jazz, blues and soul to some 40,000 music lovers. Unless you were the man who told me, bizarrely, that he “doesn’t like virtuosity in music”, you were going to…
