***MY TRICKSY SPIRIT***
is a groundbreaking new musical project which fuses the shimmering sounds of Balinese gamelan instruments - called gendér wayang - with dub, electronic, ambient, trip-hop, and psychedelic rock.
The project was started by Dr. Nick Gray, who teaches South East Asian music at SOAS, University of London, and runs the Balinese gendér wayang group that forms the basis of the band.
As part of the latest phase of the project, the forthcoming album is produced by Rob Shipster (Buttress Root Drumming). Rob plays as part of the electronic rhythm section along with three other musicians, Tomoya Forster of Puma Rosa, Julian Vicary of General Skank, and Charlie Cawood of Knifeworld. With Ableton Live, live synthesis and effects, guitar, bass and drums, the music is played through a mixing desk, much like dub, to create an intense psychedelic journey through sound.
