Chicago's disco savant Sadar Bahar returns for a second year of residency at Oval Space. To celebrate, we've teamed up to present a colourful cohort of artists for a night of rare and interesting music from around the world.
Headlining is purveyor of analog African rhythms Awesome Tapes from Africa. He brings his inimitable and eclectic dance floor energy by way of his singular tape-deck set. On the live front, Zanzibar native and Maurice Fulton collaborator Mim Suleiman brings her bewitching set, featuring a kaleidoscope of dance influences and Swahili vocals.
Also joining the lineup is Brazilian selector and Rush Hour affiliate John Gòmez, who flexes his knack for shining a light on the brilliant but lesser known gems he picks up on his travels across the continents. Rising Istanbul native Debora Ipekel brings the finest jazz, funk, and boogie from Turkey and beyond and of course, funk and soul maestro Sadar Bahar takes the opportunity to reach into the lesser frequented corners of his legendary collection.
