Penya is an untamed, genre melting exploration of ancestral rhythms that reimagines the global music landscape. The word “Penya” arrived as a nod to the Spanish word “Peña” which describes a meeting place of celebration for musicians and artists.
Penya’s debut LP “Superliminal” was released via On the Corner in 2018. Gilles Peterson highlighted the band as “one to watch” and they enjoyed support from Tom Ravenscroft, Stuart Maconie, Jeremy Soul, Worldwide FM, Boiler room and the Vinyl Factory.
Penya enjoyed numerous live appearances at Worldwide Festival Leysin, We Out Here Festival, Fusion Festival Berlin, a live broadcast from End of the Road festival on BBC Radio 3's late junction as well as supporting bands like Melt Yourself Down and Sons of Kemet.
Studio work has expanded via collaborative releases with Dengue Dengue Dengue, Photay, Sarathy Korwar and the East African artist Msafiri Zawose.
On the night, Lilli de Penya brings her selection of all time Cuban favourites to warm up your living room dancefloor - check out the vibe here:
Tickets are available on Dice for just £6.50, and the show will be available to ticketholders for 24hrs after original broadcast, so our international family can join when it's dancing time at their end.
