Ricardo Curbelo: Rhythms From Latin America

rgc_img2.jpg

Innovative, highly skilled Latin American harpist, composer and poet, Ricardo Curbelo takes his audiences on a colourful musical journey through different Latin American countries. He presents a great combination of traditional pieces, together with many of his own, often spellbinding compositions. The sound response of his Modelo Corvado harps, which he designs and constructs himself, is part of the uniqueness of his performances and he offers most of us here in Europe a very different, rhythmic and exciting experience of harp music.

Ricardo has been resident in London since 1979 and has many years experience on a wide variety of stages: radio & TV, concerts, festivals, educational institutions, wedding receptions and charity performances, to name but a few. Over the past few years he has become one of the favourite performers at the prestigious Art in Action in Oxfordshire and his most recent album, The Homo sapiens Dream, led to him being described as "the perfect act for the day " at The Natural History Museum, London, during the Exhibition Road Festival in July 2010.

Ricardo is currently working on a new album, which will include his lively and charming single, Brazil Brasil, composed as a toast from a fellow South American to Brazil, for winning the honour of hosting the next Olympics. He is delighted to take a break from recording to return to The Birchmeadow Centre.

Harp, cuatro, maracas and vocals will be demonstrated with a sparkling virtuosity not to be missed!

His brilliant musicianship that night earned him a lot of respect and a lot of new fans for South America's Joropo music. ( Taplas Magazine, Wales, 1991)
