The Colour of Jazz

The Colour of Jazz

‘Music is like a fruit of love, in a way’ - Cecil, Submit to Love Studios

Lose yourself on an adventure into music and art, jazz and colour.

Bringing together live performances from the world class GRAND UNION ORCHESTRA and MOBO-nominated CAMILLA GEORGE; records from the renowned collection of ALEXIS BLONDEL aka LEX BLONDIN; and original music and artwork from HEADWAY EAST LONDON and SUBMIT TO LOVE STUDIOS.

Throw in some mouth-watering food (LITTLE BAOBAB), a worthy cause (HEADWAY EAST LONDON) and an air of serendipity at this historic venue, and we're set for a bit of magic.

In the words of Tony of Submit to Love Studios, ‘Let it get in ya’.

Artwork: Submit to Love Studios

This event marks the launch of a collection of t-shirts influenced by jazz with a local connection, thanks to a collaboration between artists from Submit Love Studios - whose artists have all survived brain injury - and local artist Coline L'Achiver.

The original artwork was inspired by local favourites like Nubya Garcia and Shabaka Hutchings, as well as jazz masters like Alice Coltrane, Archie Shepp, Chet Baker, Sun Ra and Yusef Lateef. These greats all recorded with the late jazz drummer Clifford Jarvis, who settled in Hackney in the 1980s and taught music at Chats Palace.
