Preview: Kongo Dia Ntotila @ Pizza Express Live Holborn (London; Wednesday 4th December 2019)

You can call it Afro-jazz, but we prefer to define it “Afro-joy”, because that’s what Kongo Dia Ntotila eventually bring and share with their music. The London-based six-piece band, led by talented Congolese bass player Mulele Matondo, presents an upbeat fusion of Central and West African styles, blending together the aforementioned…

Gallery: Malphino @ Pizza Express Live Holborn (London; Wednesday 2nd October 2019)

It’s not every night that all the Pizza Express Live audience divert their attention from their pizzas, stand up from their chairs, move their tables away and dance to the notes played on stage. With Malphino, who performed at the Holborn venue on 2nd November, that was quite natural and…

Daily Discovery: 360° // Official Music Video // Kongo Dia Ntotila

“360° is the title track and lead single from the new album by London based, Kongo-Jazz band, Kongo Dia Ntotila (Pussyfoot Records). ‘360°’ is a purely instrumental track that grooves a grungy, funked up sound of African London. Event Review: Kongo Dia Ntotila @ Rich Mix (London; 24th May 2018)

From the first jazz-solo drum rhythms of David Lessie that opened the show, to the cyclical afro-lead from John Kelly’s guitar, every beat of each song resonated throughout the grooving crowd, and certainly through band leader Mulele Matondo, who I’m sure jived to every single note of the show, constantly…

Review: Anchorsong @ Echoes (London, 25th October 2016)

It is under the Overground railways in Haggerston, in a tiny venue newly opened by the Soundcrash family, that Japanese-born London-based electronic composer Anchorsong took the stage for a sold out two-nighter. Surrounded by a devoted audience that was definitely not there by chance, the musician played an effervescent live…
