We're thrilled to announce our first Women in Jazz event. An eclectic mix of UK Jazz; Jessica Lauren 4, Shirley Tetteh and acclaimed London DJ Zakia, will perform upstairs at prestigious Jazz venue Ronnie Scotts, to celebrate International Women’s Day.

Jessica Lauren has been a pivotal figure in the UK soul and Jazz scene since the early 1990s. Drawing on a wide range of influences from Jazz, Afro Latin, electronica and film, Jessica has released 4 albums in her own right and appeared with world renowned artists such as Archie Shepp, Marshall Allen (Sun Ra Arkestra), the Heliocentrics, Jean Carne, Dexter Wansel and James Mason. Jessica is joined by award winning multi-instrumentalist Josephine Davies.

Shirley Tetteh is a rising star in the UK Jazz scene, citing diverse influences such as contemporary guitarists; from Gilad Hekselman, Julian Lage, to guitar pioneers Charlie Christian and Wes Montgomery. Shirley has performed with the likes of alto saxophonists Nathaniel Facey, Jason Yarde, Arun Ghosh, Lewis Wright, and toured with Courtney Pine. She is a member of the Jazz FM nominated septet Nerija, Brownswood affiliated Maisha and Cassie Kinoshi's SEED ensemble. She currently holds the guitar chair in Jazz Jamaica, and last year won the Jazz Newcomer of the Year category at the Parliamentary Jazz Awards.

Women in Jazz also welcomes NTS Radio host, DJ, and audio producer Zakia. Over the years, Zakia has brought her eclectic tastes to audiences and venues across London including Bussey Building, Brilliant Corners, Corsica Studios, Meadows in the Mountains, Southern Soul and Brainchild festival. Expect to hear Jazz, Afro Beat, Soul, R&B, Disco Roots and much more!

Proceeds from this event will go to the charity Rights of Women, who deliver a range of high quality and accessible services aimed at increasing women’s understanding of the law and their ability to seek justice.
