Podcast: Listen to the Label Vol.6 – Wah Wah 45’s (July 2019)

In our new podcast series, we’ve chosen to focus on who provide us with the precious “raw material” for our listenings and features: quality new music!

We are talking about those heroes who decided to launch, nurture and cultivate a record label (better if with an ‘independent’ in front of it). As the title suggests, Listen to the Label is our way to pay them a well-deserved tribute, disclosing and recognizing their invaluable work and letting them introduce it with words and tunes.

It might be one of the most genre-defying labels, still, since its day 1, Wah Wah 45’s  has constantly portrayed style and quality in music through the sphere of soul… That’s why we wanted to dedicated the sixth instalment of Listen to the Label to the project set in motion by Chris and the late Simon Goss in the second half of the 90s, and which is run today by DJ, music journalist and promoter Dom Servini.

Twenty years after its inception, the London-based label that covers styles from afrobeat to hip-hop, funk to reggae and jazz to soul, has become pivotal to the development of the UK music scene, launching, supporting and spreading the music of artists like afrobeat eminence Dele Sosimi and his Orchestra, brilliant brass band Hackney Colliery Band, funky “folk-hop” ensemble Honeyfeet, referential nu-afrobeat and dub outfit Soothsayers and many, many more

But to offer you a more in-depth presentation on Wah Wah 45’s, its story and excellent roster we asked Dom Servini to join us at SOAS Radio studio and guide us through the label’s “finest songs”.
