Event Preview: BCUC @ Kings Place (London; Thursday 21st July 2022)

BCUC kings place

Oh yes, we missed them so much! Three years without their overwhelming energy, magnetising stage presence and of course, gripping sound, and we were already feeling a bit lost.

But that’s what BCUC is about, and to attend one of their performances, just standing or going wild under the stage is a whole different sweating experience… every single time.

The sextet from Soweto brings the live show dimension to another level. They lure you to participate in their music communion with soothing psychedelic and jazzy melodies. Then, they exhilarate you with layers and layers of call-and-response vocal lines inviting you to physically join the ritual, and finally they literally blow you away with relentless and striking Zulu rhythmic patterns and punk attitude.

It goes without saying that we can’t wait for their upcoming UK-tour, hitting the road in just a few days’ time and touching Porthtowan and Tropical Pressure on the 16th of July, the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival on the following day, then Kings Place in London on the 21st, Bluedot Festival at Jodrell Bank on the 22nd, Liverpool with a set at the Mandela Freedom Festival on the 23rd, Norwich on the 27th and closing with a performance at Womad on the 29th.

…and you won’t ever get enough of their “music for the people by the people with the people.”

After a 3 year wait, and returning on its 40th anniversary, to say there was anticipation around Womad ’22 would be a vast understatement. The line-up played it safe in some respects, with old favourites looming large; but there were bright spots of new musical energy, hungrily met by pent-up…
