As British-Nigerian afrobeat evangelist Dele Sosimi prepares to celebrate his sixtieth trip around the sun, his mission of spreading insatiable rhythms and joyful grooves to audiences across the world shows no sign of slowing.
Over the next couple of months, the trailblazing veteran is set to play a string of dates in cities across the UK before heading to Albania, supported by his vibrant Afrobeat Orchestra, for the sun-soaked Kala Festival; bringing his inexhaustible energy and spirit to diverse crowds with promises of incessant dancing and hedonistic revelry.
Nestled in between those shows is the biggest cause for celebration of all, as Dele commemorates his 60th birthday with a return to London’s Jazz Cafe on Wednesday 22nd February. The iconic Camden venue, which routinely hosts musical legends from across jazz, soul, funk and beyond, has become something of a home for one of afrobeat’s most tireless artists and one that he relishes playing at:
“The people that come to watch my performance at Jazz Cafe know what to expect. Be prepared to dance. Proper dancing shoes. Get ready to party and sweat it out!” promises the clearly excited birthday boy, in a recent promo video posted to the Dele Sosimi Afrobeat Orchestra Instagram page. Indeed anybody who has had the priviledge of attending any of the previous Jazz Cafe shows will attest that Dele knows how to live the highlife!
Joining Dele Sosimi for this special birthday celebration will be his Afrobeat Orchestra as well as, amongst other special guests, acclaimed singer-songwriter Ola Onabulé́.
