Arsenal of Sounds Opening Party w/ Malphino & Let Drum Beat @ Woolwich Works (London; Friday 2nd September 2022)
Oh yes…we know that the hype is all about the arrival of the Elizabeth Line in Woolwich and beyond, but here at Rhythm Passport, we have one or two Woolwich-related reasons to be excited too!
On Friday the 2nd of September, you are all invited to the official launch of Arsenal of Sounds, a new music series that will go on stage every first Friday of the month at Woolwich Works, five minutes walking from Woolwich’s Crossrail and Woolwich Arsenal’s DLR and Rail stations.
Since we wanted to set the right funky mood with the very first show of the series, we couldn’t find better acts to join us for the inauguration.
That’s how, on the 2nd of September, we will go fully Tropical and Afro-Brazilian with Malphino and Let Drum Beat. The two bands perfectly embody the Arsenal of Sounds’ philosophy: to feature London-based bands who showcase the world through their music.
Both Malphino and Let Drum Beat are indeed Londoners from around the world. Malphino comes from an imaginary tropical island and has grown up listening to and playing cumbia, chicha, son, rumba and Afro-Latin vibes. Whereas Let Drum Beat, an all-female quintet featuring members from Brazil, Scotland and Benin, is an inspiring musical bond between the Afro-Brazilian percussive drive, Scottish folk and folktales, West African rhythms with antennas stretched to welcome sounds and inspiration from all over the world.
There’s no better way to launch a music series than hosting talented artists who will let you dance the evening away and explore the world through their music. So, save the date… On the 2nd of September, the Arsenal of Sounds will open its doors and welcome you at Woolwich Works for a musical blowout!

It’s not every night that all the Pizza Express Live audience divert their attention from their pizzas, stand up from their chairs, move their tables away and dance to the notes played on stage. With Malphino, who performed at the Holborn venue on 2nd November, that was quite natural and…

We can’t celebrate and encourage a project like Let Drum Beat enough, not simply because they are a full-female band in a man’s world (the music one), but also because, with their Afro-Brazilian-inspired sound and rhythms and positive attitude, they release such warm and heartening vibes that will inevitably end…
We’re guilty of rarely venturing too far west in London, but when we do we always live our days up, attending outstanding events and enjoying every minute of it. The 2018 edition of Ealing Jazz Festival was no exception. Despite the blustery weather blowing sand all over Walpole Park and…
