Not that music has lost its ability to surprise us, but to be honest, we are rarely struck as much as when we listen to a new release from The Budos Band.

Despite the fact that the Staten Island musicians have been successfully blending Afrobeat with jazz, soul with metal, and psychedelia with Ethio-funk since 2005, it is with their latest works, V in particular, that their sound has become thoroughly raw, dark and unrestrained. In a single word, inspired.

On stage, the nine-piece band sets free its most visceral musical instincts, giving life to impassioned performances. On the last day of May, The Budos Band will be in Islington for one of their rare London appearances, so get ready to be blown away by their “evil” funky groove.
