Sadly, we can’t bring up all the amazing events enriching this year’s London African Music Festivalcalendar; still we can shine a light on a couple of them, starting from possibly its wildest one.
Ever danced to some groovy gnawa-funk? No? There’s always a first time! On 12th September, style, good vibes and a Northern African atmosphere will all go side by side in Shoreditch, when Abdul and the Gang will pour their very own upbeat version of chaabi and gnawa onto the Rich Mix stage.
The Paris-based 8-piece band, captained by Moroccan Abou Ben Salem, goes far beyond the Maghrebi tradition borders, expanding its sound with dance-inducing Afrobeat and Afro-funk elements. Celebrate their first ever London show by joining them on Thursday 12th, and you’ll revel in some Arabic musical magic.
