If 2015 has been anything to go by, Afrobeats are most definitely here to stay. From Britain via Nigeria, WizKid has been a prominent figure in the scene as well as newcomers such as DaviDo and KCee, all delivering energy infused modern afro dance music.
On the first Saturday of the year, 229 The Venue hosts the ‘Afrobeats New years Party’, featuring some killer sound systems as well as the sounds of Demba Barry and WaDaDa.
When Afro Celt Sound System burst onto the music scene in 1995, their impact was felt nationwide. A collective whose fusion of West African rhythms, Irish traditional music and rhythms created for the dancefloor, positely surprised its audience and brought a tremendous sense of ingenuity and joy. Afro Celt vocalist and dancer, Demba Barry, will represent the band, drawing on homegrown Senegalese traditions, singing in Fula, Soninke, and Wolof.
With sound system Dj’s on hand playing, Afrobeats, Zouk, Reggae, World Music and more, Afrobeats New Years Party promises to be a feast for both the eyes and ears.
