Preview: BBC Radio 6 Music Festival @ Camden (London; Friday 6th to Sunday 8th March 2020)
For three days and nights there will be a wave of eclectic live music, DJ’s and Q&A sessions across Camden. Ranging from spoken word to dancehall, math-rock to afrobeat – all with an experimental and original flare. The main headliners include Michael Kiwanuka, Róisín Murphy, Kate Tempest, and Mike Skinner, supported with a 40 artist deep line up conveying some of the greats in alternative music at the moment.
This annual festival is coming to London, taking place in some historic venues including the Roundhouse which has been a home to poets and punks over the years, and Dingwalls where Gilles Peterson and Patrick Forge hosted Talkin Loud and Saying Something in the early 90s.
This year they will bring the bold voice of Kojey Radical, the bright groove of Kokoroko, the unruly might of Melt Yourself Down and the sheer fun of Hot 8 Brass Band. This is the kind of multifaceted event that finds the beauty and creativity in different kinds of music and brings them all together – where else can you find Sudan Archives and Squid in the same line up?
The festival is celebrating some exclusive appeal. Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien is debuting his project EOB’s first UK show. On Saturday 7th March in honour of International Women’s Day on Sunday, the Roundhouse has announced an all-female line-up. The party will be spilling all over Camden, collaborating with Camden Alive to host the 6 Music Fringe, with acts such as Kampire and Boko! Boko! at the Jazz Cafe. The excitement is not to be missed! So if you want to be a part of it and haven’t got a ticket, there will be live broadcasts across BBC 6 Music, BBC Sounds, BBC Four and BBC iPlayer.

However, it is with sheer delight I report that the proceedings seemingly went ahead seamlessly. Saturday I have to jump…

The concept of an outdoor jazz festival hardly conjures images of glitter-filled Glastonbury excitement, a young hip crowd and dance-fuelled elation. However, previously exclusive jazz appears to be undergoing a fashion revolution and the grounds of Glynde Place hinted at this. Love Supreme, the UK’s only three-day greenfield jazz festival…

This is the ‘anthology’ of modern Cuban music that embodies the diversity of a new generation of artists beyond the Buena Vista Social Club legacy.
