Preview: Daymé Arocena @ Southbank Centre (London; Friday 4th October 2019)
If you can stand out in an extraordinary music scene like the Cuban one, it means that you are worth it. And when you first listen to Daymé Arocena’s voice, you completely understand why she fully deserves to be considered one of the most exciting new acts in Cuban music and much, much more.
The singer from La Havana is, to put it simply, a natural, but she also decided to “educate” her innate talent, developing her musicianship, becoming a composer, choir director and bandleader, and starting research work in the Cuban tradition.
That’s why her show on 4th October at Queen Elizabeth Hall is not going to be your usual night out. If a life of surrounding swamps, deltas, briar patches,…
Usually it would be rude to reveal a woman’s age, but there are always exceptions. Especially when it comes to an impressive young musician, composer, arranger and choir director who, at the age of 24, has already released two albums, toured the world, signed for Gilles Peterson’s label Brownswood Recordings,…
As it’s happening since 2001, for ten days in April, London sounds and plays Latino. The responsibility rests on ¡COMO NO! which, 15 years ago, started to organise one of the most chéveres Festivals of the London music scene. La Linea has indeed brought to the British capital some of the finest,…
