Preview: Different Trains 1947 @ Barbican Centre [London, 1st October, 2017]

Different Trains 1947 is the closing performance of the Transcender Festival, happening at the Barbican Centre from September 28th to October 1st, bringing “ecstatic and devotional music from around the world”.

Taking inspiration from Steve Reich’s Different Trains, an audiovisual piece documenting train journeys in the US and Europe at the time of WWII, Different Trains 1947 shifts its focus to India and sees British electronic musician Actress, British composer Jack Barnett of These New Puritans, Mumbai-based producer Sandunes, Indian percussionist Jivraj Singh, Hindustani vocalist Priya Purushothaman, and British filmmakers Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard, reflect upon the events that led the country to obtain its independence 70 years ago.

The event is in partnership with Warp Records and Boiler Room, plus Indian partner Wild City and ‘What About Art?’. Support comes from Warp’s electronic music duo Darkstar.
