Preview: Fela Kuti – Saluting the Black President @ EartH (London; Friday 5th July 2019)
It might only be at its second edition, but Innervisions Festival is already synonymous with quality music. The multi-venue event produced by AGMP will bring to London a 4-day-long full immersion in classy notes and extraordinary musicianship. Examples are acts like Gilberto Gil, MavisStaple, RobertGlasper, Saul Williams… but we chose to focus our attention on the show happening at EartH on 5th July.
On the Hackney venue’s stage will be a celebration of the one and only Black President, Fela Kuti. Curated by Fela’s manager Rikky Stein and having Dele Sosimi (Fela’s keyboard player and musical director in the Egypt 80) as host, Saluting the Black President will follow the successful model of Felabration, bringing together an all-star line-up, presenting musicians who grew up living and breathing afrobeat and Fela Kuti’s discography.
So, you will have the opportunity to listen to some of the classics of the Black President, reinterpreted by the Dele Sosimi Afrobeat Orchestra, supporting London-based musicians like Afro-grime MC Afrikan Boy, hip-hop and soul vocalist Amy True, jazz-folk-soul singer/songwriter Bumi Thomas and plenty more.
On Friday 5th July, EartH will go fully Afrobeat to salute the Black President, so come and pay homage to music history.

A few weeks ago, we had the opportunity to attend one of the highlights of the London’s music calendar: Amadou & Mariam. The Malian couple delighted the Koko audience presenting their brand new work Bofou Safou and performing an exciting sold-out gig supported by London born-and-bred hip-hop narrator Afrikan Boy. Here’s what we saw and…
If you want to pay tribute to one of the most renowned and influential musicians, you need to do it good and proper, and that’s what Dele Sosimi and music partners staged at the Electric Ballroom for Felabration 2016. The London-based Nigerian keyboard player, accompanied by his orchestra and a…
