Preview: FREEK – London Premiere @ Rich Mix (London; Saturday 21st December 2019)
We always look for musicians who are able to move the musical focal point to new scenes and regions. That’s what FREEK is doing. The Somali-born United Arab Emirates-based MC is currently spotting a light on the rising GCC and Middle Eastern trap and drill scenes.
On 21st December, he will be in London for his UK debut to introduce his new EP 150 and to show that trap has gone far beyond its cradle in Atlanta, reaching the four corners of the world. FREEK is indeed a clear example of how much the style has matured, considering that its sound and lyrics have become an almost universal mouthpiece and dancefloor filler, connecting artists from the most diverse regions.
If, on one side, FREEK musical and visual imagery inevitably recalls the American trap original canons, on the other, it’s populated by Middle Eastern elements and images that make it unique and more than worthy of being discovered and listened to.
So, join him at Rich Mix in late December and find out how the Abu Dhabi underground sounds.
