Preview: Gary Bartz + Maisha + Dwight Trible @ Southbank Centre (London; Saturday 16th November 2019)
If you are looking for refuge as we get close to winter, then jazz saxophonist Gary Bartz has the perfect night to take cover. On 16th November, he will be joined by London jazz outfit Maisha, LA jazz vocalist Dwight Trible and London singer and MOBO award winner Zara McFarlane for only a second gig since the summer. The cross-Atlantic group reunite to celebrate truth and harmony at EFGLondon Jazz Festival.
This year will mark the 50th anniversary of Gary Bartz’s iconic release of his NY recorded album Another Earth. Over his career Bartz has played with the royalty of US jazz, performing alongside Charles Mingus, Max Roach, Miles Davis and Art Blakey. In the 1970s he moved into a solo career and became one of the pioneers of the jazz fusion movement.
Bartz is known for putting together deep-rooted shows where the music doesn’t stop. Energy flows between the audience and the players and each set brings something new and unique. This is a rare opportunity to see a master in his element and to see the passing along of the flame between generations and movements. A must see gig!
