Pleasurehood has been taking over East London on Saturday nights, providing an alternative club night geared towards the weird and the wonderful, proclaiming: “This is your disco, This is your house”.
On the 19th January, Pleasurehood will host the very best of African-based disco in a colourful, groovy night of dancing.
Epic record collector and manager Jannis of the Habibi Funk label will be playing a rare selection of vinyl he has dug up from the Maghreb areas of Africa. Expect raw, funky, un-heard of disco tracks from Algeria, Tunisia and more; an alternative Arab swayed disco that without fail has people dancing for hours.
As though that wasn’t enough, the evening is coupled with a DJ set from innovative London-based Afro-electro band Afriquoi. The DJ set will play a selection of the band’s best dance tracks, featuring West African kora, xylophones mixed with electro, and dub. It’s always an irresistible groove.
