With a little more than a month to go, the 2017 edition of Jazz:Re:Found will liven up Turin and Milan.

Inspired by London-born and bred, Jazz Re:freshedJazz:Re:Found has reached its 10th year and will celebrate with a remarkable calendar of music events.

To make the waiting time shorter, two curtain-raising shows will warm up the ears and legs of its festival audience.

Everything will start on the 20th of October with the first “sneak peek” of the programme happening at Santeria in Milan. Directly from Rio de Janeiro, influential Brazilian ensemble Azymuth will bring their tasteful blend of jazz, Bossa nova, funk and 1970s sensibility to Northern Italy.

One month later (25th of November), Milan will enjoy another Re:Found “tasting”, with one of the most and rightfully hyped names of 2017: Thundercat. The American bass player will be one of the highlights of Linecheck and Milano Music Week and will captivate the Base audience with his funky sound.

Four days later, in Turin, Jazz:Re:Found 2017 will get underway in all its splendour and vibes. Four days (and nights) of jazz and everything that goes with it, from electronica to hip-hop, enriched by influences from all over the world and counting on absolute musicianship.

The final line-up has been recently announced (apart from the usual “last minute” additions) and we have already filled our agenda with enough not-to-be-missed acts over the four days.

On Wednesday 29th of November, New Yorker funk “evangelists” Cory Henry & the Funk Apostles will uplift everybody’s spirit with their soulful vibes.

On the following night, James Senese & Napoli Centrale will spread their Mediterranean-scented jazz, and from London, Bradley Zero will engage listeners with his eclectic taste and groovy selection.

On the 1st of December, the highlight will be the 20-year anniversary of Roni Size’s debut album, New Forms. Together with another UK electronic music master, Goldie, they will bring the music clock back to the 1990s and let everyone dance to breakbeat, jungle and DnB throughout the night.

Motor City Drum Ensemble will close the curtain on the festival on Saturday the 2nd of December. The German house DJ and producer, one of the present-day club culture authorities, will be supported by the visionary and refined French pianist Christophe Chassol, legendary Studio 54 disco DJ Nicky Siano and the debut of a brand new Casino Royale “special project”.

Enough reasons to take some days off and enjoy a long weekend in Northern Italy.

Organising and running a music festival these days might sound like pure madness… It’s not only about passion for and dedication to music and its interpreters, but also a risky work of art considering the volatile Covid-related situation, ever-changing rules and widespread insecurity affecting the cultural sector on a global…

Interview: Christophe Chassol – Composing Scores from the Daily Life (January 2018)

I remember the first time I heard Chassol like it was yesterday. I was listening to “Pipornithology, Pt. II” – from his acclaimed album Big Sun – and I was blown away, by the way, he started with the recording of a singing bird and used it to create an…

Event Review: Jazz:Re:Found Festival (Turin, Italy; 29th November to 3rd December 2017)

Embraced by the Alps Mountains in the North-western area of Italy, Turin is a city marked by its aristocratic past and industrial history. This contrast best represents the city’s multiple facets: richness and poverty, innovation and tradition, history and modernity all living together in one place. This blend and mix…
