Preview: Kamasi Washington @ Roundhouse (London; Wednesday 2nd May 2018)

The beauty of Kamasi Washington’s artistry lies in his ability to write intensely rich compositions which are accessible despite their depth and grandiosity. A Jazz tenor saxophonist and bandleader from Los Angeles, he grew up performing with other like-minded artists and has played with many well-known musicians, such as Kendrick Lamar. He released his first self-led three-disc album The Epic in 2015 to critical acclaim.

Washington will be playing at Chalk Farm’s Roundhouse on 2nd May in advance of his June release of new multi-disc album Heaven and Earth. This is an LP dedicated to exploring the connection between the world as he sees it outwardly and the world as he sees it inwardly, represented as Heaven and Earth. His music is spiritual and sentimental and inhabits the interrelated nature of our world.

Washington is part of the movement which is progressing and growing jazz. A dynamic musician who is forever evolving, watching him perform is like a glimpse into another world.
