Preview: KOKOROKO @ Southbank Centre (London, Sunday 5th August 2019)
No wonder that Nile Rodgers expressly asked to include KOKOROKO in the line-up of his upcoming Meltdown Festival at Southbank Centre. The 8-piece band is indeed one of the most up-and-coming and exciting acts flourishing from the London nu-jazz scene, and one of the reasons for their success is the fact that they go far and beyond the jazz borders.
Their sound digs its roots into the West African rich soil of Afrobeat and highlife. From there, it blooms into soul, funk, R&B and eventually jazz. Among other reasons, we could also mention their talent, cohesion, groove and so on and so forth… but these are for you to discover and enjoy on 5th August, when they’ll repay Nile Rodgers’ esteem.
