Preview: Lakuta + Native Sun + Luzmira Zerpa & Jack Yglesias from Family Atlantica + DJ Pete On the Corner @ Rich Mix (London, 28th April 2017)
Three bands, one DJ and a full load of upbeat rhythms that will let you dance and dance and dance and…
If that wasn’t enough, you’ll have tropical vibes and hip-hop rhymes, Afro-electro beats and Caribbean up-tempos, funky grooves and Latin traditional melodies all in one night. Actually, all in five hours, as it all happens between 8–1AM 28th April, when Rich Mix hosts the second Rhythm Passport night with Lakuta, Native Sun, Family Atlantica Duo and DJ Pete On the Corner.
After our February event (organised in collaboration with Movimientos), which saw Aurelio and Juanita Euka mesmerise the audience, we are back at the Shoreditch venue for another exciting show.
Since, we want you to enjoy a memorable night-out, we’ve invited some of the niftiest UK acts, starting with Luzmira Zerpa and Jack Yglesias (core members of Family Atlantica) and their warm Afro-Latin organic music flavours, which recalls Luzmira’s Venezuelan origins.
Then, it’s all about Caribbean, South-East African and urban atmospheres with London-based Native Sun and their blend of hip-hop, soul and Afro-rhythms, all the way to the grand finale, which will be literally ‘grand’.
Directly from the most ‘tropical’ city of the UK, Brightonians Lakuta bring their sunny and larger-than-life character to London’s East End. The 8-piece band, gathering together musicians from the four corners of the world, will show why the term world music is reductive and outdated. Keeping the party mood pumping throughout the night will be Pete from On the Corner Records and his great music selection.
So, ‘give your soul to the music’ and come have fun with us!
Have fun with us at A Mid-Summer Evening’s Live Stream. On the Rhythm Passport and Movimientos pages, we will be ringing up the curtain on talented female singer-songwriters and zigzagging across the Brazilian-Venezuelan musical border with traditional, contemporary and far-ranging tunes. Throughout the event, we will have the pleasure to…
The most tropical weekend of the year is upon us! So, if you haven’t already, pack your tent, sunscreen and fun appetite, and head for Mount Pleasant Ecological Park. From Friday 13th to Sunday 15th July, Tropical Pressure festival will drop its cargo of Latin, Caribbean, West, East and Central African…
Before learning to walk and talk, Luzmira Zerpa was already singing… well, maybe that’s not literally what happened, but since an early age, the woman who would become the voice, cuatro player and relentless energetic drive of Family Atlantica grew up in an environment where listening to, singing and playing…
It was a night to remember! Three exciting bands (Lakuta, Native Sun & Family Atlantica Duo) and a funky DJ (DJ Pete from On the Corner Records) for a unique show. Were you there? Recollect your memories and re-experience what happened at Rich Mix with our photo gallery. You missed it?…
